Past few couple of years witnessed the emergence of WhatsApp as the most powerful app for private chat messaging. Its users have now crossed the magic figure of one billion and remains the second to reach this mark after Facebook. Now WhatsApp remains the doorway to social life for you and me. Here we discuss eight steps which will improve your WhatsApp experience.
Find who you send most number of messages!
There is option to find how many messages you have sent over WhatsApp so far. Just visit the ‘storage usage’ option in the settings menu. Here along with the entire number of messages, you will also find the number of messages you have sent to each friend. Most messaged friend will turn up on the top.
Recover Deleted Messages
There are instances when we unknowingly delete messages which might be of use or of someone whose contact hasn’t been saved yet. In that case, you lose the contact as well. Here you have an option to recover deleted messages; provided you take some preventive measures earlier. Using ‘back up chats’ option given in the Chats section in settings is the solution for this. You can also set ‘auto back up chat history’ option.
Skip Blue Ticks
Blue ticks remain an indicator for the message sender to know whether his message is read. Basically this is good especially when the sender wants to be sure of his message is read. But this often causes trouble as the receiver is (literally) ‘forced to reply’ for the message after he has read it. In case if he fails to do so, the act becomes a pure negligence that is unbearable from the sender’s point of view. Here is how you can skip the danger sign of blue ticks and read WhatsApp messages without letting the sender’s knowledge.
Just turn off internet access via both data usage and over wifi. Then choose ‘airplane mode’ on your smartphone to read the messages on WhatsApp. This will keep you safe from blue ticks. Be sure to shut down WhatsApp before you return to general mode. This method isn’t that smooth but is still useful for avoiding certain ‘unwanted’ people.
Turn off Read Receipts
If you are not satisfied with the above mentioned tip, then here is an easier one for you. Just turn off read receipts to avoid allowing others to know whether you have read their messages. The negative side of this feature is that you will also be not able to know whether your messages are read by the receiver. You can find this option under the privacy section inside settings.
Manage ‘Last Seen’
Why let someone know the times you use WhatsApp? Many complained this feature to be an encroachment over one’s privacy. And Facebook and WhatsApp have finally listened to those complaints; but in a different way. They have just added a special option for sorting this issue. Now one can set ‘last seen’ option to one among the three given categories viz. everyone, my contacts or nobody.
Bold, Italics and Tilt Words in Messages
This is one of the recent features from WhatsApp. Using three different signs (** sign for bold), ( _ _ ) and ( ~ ~ for tilt) you can offer your reader a better understanding of ‘what you really mean’ including pun.
Send Documents
Not only images, chats, messages or videos; now WhatsApp users can send documents as well. Currently WhatsApp accepts documents in the pdf format but hope the most popular chat platform to accept documents of other formats in near future.
Skip Undesirable Use of Storage
By default, WhatsApp stores nearly all images and videos captured with the smartphone camera. It also stores images and videos you receive as messages. This causes you lose storage. You can prevent WhatsApp from eating your storage by turning off ‘automatic download’. Unwanted data usage can also be moderated using ‘save incoming media’ under the chat option in settings.
